After a long delay, the long-awaited Alfa Romeo Tonale is finally here. This is the brand’s first electrified model. The US launch of the new Alfa Romeo is well underway. Here’s everything we know about the Alfa Romeo Tonale and the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV.
Exterior of Alfa Romeo Tonale
At the front, the Tonale features the iconic ‘Trilobo’ grille, the distinctive Alfa Romeo ‘Scudetto’ shield and aggressive full LED matrix headlights in a ‘3+3’ design. The Tonale features pronounced wheel arches, flared fenders, a sleek greenhouse and sturdy lateral shoulders. In addition, the Tonale is fitted with low-profile tires with characteristic Alfa Romeo rims. At the rear, the taillights take the slim design features of the headlights and form a sinusoidal curve that covers almost the entire width of the vehicle. According to Alfa Romeo, the all-out rear his windows are a tribute to his 8C Competizione.
Alfa Romeo has unveiled a plug-in hybrid variant of the Tonale, but hasn’t revealed it yet. On August 28, 2022, professional spy photographer Walter Vayr (Gabetz Spy Unit) released an image (see on Facebook) of a prototype of its Italian license plate being tested on public roads. Spy images showed that the only cosmetic difference to its regular Tonale was the presence of a cargo hatch in the rear left wing. The company is likely that it will complete the development of the Tonale PHEV.
Interior of Alfa Romeo Tonale
The Tonale’s interior is traditional and sporty, without overdoing the minimalism favored by traditional performance enthusiasts. Straddling the middle ground between massive and sophisticated design, the dashboard features a sporty design pattern integrated into the sophisticated passenger side area. The compact steering wheel is flat at the bottom, behind which he has two large shift paddles.
In-cabin technology highlights include a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Both are Android powered and part of Uconnect 5. The infotainment system includes 4G connectivity, OTA updates, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto.
Specification of Alfa Romeo Tonale
The Alfa Romeo Tonale rides on the same platform as the Jeep Compass and the new Global Jeep Commander, in what Stellantis calls a “small wide 4×4 architecture.” It is 178.3 inches long, longer than the compass (173.4 inches), and 72.4 inches wide and 63.0 inches high, respectively.
Alfa Romeo will launch the Tonale in the US in petrol and plug-in hybrid variants. The non-electrified version uses a 256 hp, 295 lb.-ft, 2.0 liter turbocharged engine. of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission and his AWD system transfer power to the wheels.
Specifications of Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV
The Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV borrows the Compass 4xe’s plug-in hybrid electric powertrain, with a 1.3-liter multi-air turbocharged petrol engine working in tandem with an electric motor that powers the rear axle. A petrol engine combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission produces 180 horsepower and drives the front wheels. The electric motor driving the rear wheels produces 90 kW (121 hp) of power, stored in a larger (compared to the Compass 4xe’s 11.4 kWh) 15.5 kWh battery pack. In effect, the Tonale PHEV will be an e-AWD model.
A DNA switch allows you to control the power supplied to the wheels. In dynamic mode, the engine and electric motor deliver maximum power. Then comes Natural mode for normal or relaxed driving. Finally, an enhanced efficiency mode enables pure electric driving, allowing the Tonale PHEV to drive quietly for over 30 miles. However, this is not the EPA’s estimated number. The Tonale PHEV sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6 seconds.
